Logistics - Need to Know

General Info

When putting together a trip of this magnitude, there is a lot of important information that our guests need to have in order to effectively plan for the trip. We hope that the information found below will be of great help for our guests.

The Bar

As mentioned earlier, only beer and wine are available for purchase on board the ship. Spirits need to be bought at the duty free at our European point of departure. For those who choose to start a bar tab, your bar bill will be calculated and a bill presented on the last day on board. The ship does not take credit cards for bar bill payments and will only accept US dollars or Euros. Make sure to bring enough extra cash for this. Sodas, water and juice are all complementary.

Medivac Insurance

Because of the remote nature of this trip, Medivac Insurance is an absolute must. The ships captain will not allow a guest on board who does not have it. We have a very good insurer who is highly experienced with this type of coverage and we have included the cost of insurance in the price of the trip. Once a booking has been made, we will request your age, nationality and home address as part of your insurance coverage.

Weight Restrictions

Our 3 hour charter flight from Mahe down to Assumption is on a 14 seat Twin prop. We usually have a full compliment of passengers on board the flight and as a result we face strict weight restrictions. The allotment of weight per person for luggage (carry on not included) is 45 pounds. This may seem like a daunting task to pare down all your cloths and gear to a mere 45 pounds, but when you consider that there is daily laundry service on board the ship, you simply don't need all the cloths you may think you do.

24 Hour Fishing

The fishing days are long at Cosmoledo and many guests are exhausted and fished out by sun down. However, for those who want to fish more, the fishing from the ship at night is excellent. We throw on two large spot lights on either side of the ship and the amount of marine life that is attracted to the lights is pretty amazing. Large schools of GT's and jacks are our constant companions at night along with the occasional shark and barracudas. On our fall 2007 trip, we had a fly shop owner from Missouri land 12 GT's from 2-4 am. On the same trip we had a guest hook a sailfish from the back of the ship. He hooked up while most of the group was having lunch. He and the guides jumped into one of the zodiacs and he landed the sailfish about 25 minutes later. For the hardcore angler, the fishing from the back of the ship provides endless entertainment.
